Mini-conference and Workshop on Proteomics Research and Regenerative Medicine
With the support of the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), a mini-conference and workshop on “Proteomics Research and Regenerative Medicine” co-organised by the Ministry of Education (MoE) Key Laboratory of Regenerative Medicine (The Chinese University of Hong Kong – Jinan University) (the Key Laboratory) and the Hong Kong Proteomics Society was successfully held at the Lo Kwee-Seong Integrated Biomedical Sciences Building on 27 May 2017.

This one-day event was started off with a proteomics demonstration and workshop showing the workflow like sample preparation, data acquisition and statistical analysis, and the updated application on MALDI imaging for the study of proteomes. A mini-conference was held in the afternoon as part two of the event. During the opening of the conference, a welcoming speech was delivered by Prof. Kenneth K.H. Lee, Associate Director of the Key Laboratory cum Theme Chief of Developmental and Regenerative Biology Thematic Research Program of SBS, while an introduction to the Hong Kong Proteomics Society was given by Prof. Samuel C.L. Lo, the President of Hong Kong Proteomics Society. Prof. Newman S.K. Sze, Director of Proteomics Core of Bioscience Research School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore was invited to give a keynote presentation on “Dissecting the Molecular Pathology of Cancer and Dementia: Proteomic Identification of Priority Drug Targets and Diagnostic Biomarkers in the Hypoxia Pathway”. It was followed by two presentations on proteomic studies given by the speakers from State Key Laboratory of Environmental and Biological Analysis and Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Food Biological Safety Control, respectively, before the postgraduate poster presentation session and souvenir presentation concluded the whole event.

By supporting the Key Laboratory in hosting the event, our School hopes that new technologies on proteomics can be further promoted, leading to more research ideas and collaborations on using proteomics approach in the study of regenerative medicine, and in turn achieving the mission of the Key Laboratory, which is also one of the major research areas as promoted in the CUHK Strategic Plan 2016-2020.
