Prof. Stephen Dalton recently joined School of Biomedical Sciences, CUHK as Professor and has been conferred the title “Global STEM Scholar” under the Global STEM Professorship Scheme launched by the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, with effect from January 2022.

Prof. Dalton received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Adelaide, Australia, followed by post-doctoral research at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in London, U.K. Afterwards, he joined the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology in Nutley, New Jersey, followed by an academic position in University of Adelaide, Australia.  Prior to joining CUHK, Prof. Dalton was a Professor and Endowed Chair in the Department of Molecular Cell Biology, and Founding Director of the Center for Molecular Medicine, University of Georgia, U.S.A. 

This newly launched Global STEM Professorship Scheme aims at helping universities in Hong Kong to recruit internationally renowned Innovation and Technology (I&T) scholars and their teams to Hong Kong, hence scaling new heights in I&T teaching and research activities of local universities.  Prof. Dalton now has initiated a program focusing on therapeutic development for type 2 diabetes using technology developed in his laboratory and will continue his work in adult adipose-derived stem cells and pluripotent stem cell biology.

Stephen Dalton教授最近加入中大生物醫學學院擔任教授，並獲香港特別行政區政府推出的傑出創科學人計劃授予「全球創科學人」之名銜，自2022年1月起生效。

Stephen Dalton 教授在澳洲阿德萊德大學獲得生物化學和分子生物學博士學位，及後在英國倫敦帝國癌症研究基金會進行博士後研究。 隨後他加入了位於新澤西州納特利的羅氏分子生物學研究所，之後在澳洲阿德萊德大學擔任學術職位。 加入中大前，他曾任美國佐治亞大學分子細胞生物學系教授及講座教授，以及分子醫學中心創始主任。

政府推出的傑出創科學人計劃協助本港大學聘任國際知名的創科學者及其團隊來港，令本港大學在創科教研活動更進一步發展。 Dalton 教授現已展開了專注於 2 型糖尿病治療開發的項目，並使用他實驗室開發的技術，並將繼續在成人自體脂肪來源幹細胞和多能幹細胞生物學領域的研究工作。
