Prof. Chan Wai-yee (standing) introduced our School

Visit of Scientists from a pharmaceutical company
The School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) received a group of four representatives from HEC Pharm Co. Ltd. (HEC Pharm), a Guangdong-based pharmaceutical company at Lo Kwee-Seong Integrated Biomedical Sciences Building on 9 May 2017. As coordinated by the Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services (ORKTS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the representatives were also arranged to visit the Institute of Chinese Medicine and the School of Life Sciences, CUHK, respectively, in the afternoon on the same day.

A meeting was held between our School’s academic and teaching staff, and the representatives of HEC Pharm who were also experts in biomedical sciences in their Research and Development Team. During the meeting, Prof. Chan Wai-yee, the School Director of SBS, introduced the research development and the education endeavors that the School has been pursuing since its establishment. Apart from exchanging views on potential collaboration in areas such as diabetes, cancer, and heart and vascular diseases, internship opportunities for our postgraduate and undergraduate students was another key area that was explored at the meeting.

Through connecting and sharing views with scientists who are now engaging in private sector, it is a good opportunity for our principle investigators to have better understanding of the current market trends and demands of the related research areas in which they have been engaged, and the extent of research outcomes impacting upon the community. At the same time, it is our hope that more internship and other forms of experiential learning opportunities can be continually explored and offered to our students, so that they can be better equipped to meet the increasing expectations in today’s competitive job market.
